Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has taken a decision to hold a decisive congress rather than a consultative one on Friday. This came after the alliance which is made up of four political parties, Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) , Botswana National Front (BNF) and Botswana Peoples Party (BPP) met last week to decide on the type of congress to hold. Addressing the media on Wednesday, UDC Publicity Secretary, Moeti Mohwasa said the congress will debate the constitution, constituency and ward allocations, governance and party policies. One of the issues that is expected to be hotly debated will be the issue of vice presidency where BCP will propose that the UDC retain only one, instead of the current provision for two. Ahead of the congress, BMD has said that there will be no discussion on constituency allocation as the issue has long been concluded but Mohwasa has confirmed that it will be debated by the congress. “We cannot have a congress which does not have powers and as such National Executive Committee (NEC) will present all the reports and the congress will decide on them,” said Mohwasa.
