BNF CALLS FOR PEACE IN ZIMBABWE

The Botswana National Front (BNF) is concerned by the recent media reports of the alleged ‘assassination attempt’ on Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa at his party’s political campaign trail rally in Bulawayo. This is a serious incident which could spiral into a violent war if not expeditiously managed, especially that past Zimbabwe national elections have been characterised by violent differences. The BNF calls on Southern African Development Community (SADC) and African Union to conduct a thorough and sound investigation on what transpired so as to protect and prevent the country from plunging into a possible life threatening civil war. Past regional and continental interventions by the two bodies on political differences have been a disappointment. A civil war in Zimbabwe will definitely plunge the country further deep into socio-economic crises that will take decades for it to recover. Political violence is unwelcome in the already economically decimated Zimbabwe. Already the country is undergoing the worst economic downturn and millions of Zimbabweans are forced to live in the diaspora, especially in the SADC countries.
