The leadership of the Alliance for Progressives (AP), last week ganged up against President Mokgweetsi Masisi, acussing of pulling populist stunts to win the hearts of many unsuspecting voters. The AP leaders took a swipe at Masisi, going as far as to suggest that his new reforms are not genuine policies intended to empower Batswana and steer the country in a positive economic direction. Theyw ere speaking at a political rally in Boikhutso ward of the Francistown South constituency, attended by deputy president of AP Wynter Mmolotsi, Gaborone Central MP Dr Phenyo Butale, Dr Tambula and Councillor Nyeku among others. Dr Butale touched on the worst corruption scandal Botswana has ever experienced, which at first saw the disappearance of P 250 million from the national petroleum fund coffers. He said Batswana are now suffering because of the stolen money, as it was intended to offset international fluctuations in fuel prices. Because the monies designed to perform this purpose had been from misappropriated, road users have to bear the brunt by constantly paying higher prices at the petrol pump.
