Debswana Jwaneng Mine Acting General Manager Koolaotse Koolaotse says the mine is committed to uplifting and empowerment of local communities situated around the mining town through its Cooperative Social Investment (CSI) initiatives. Koolaotse said this on Thursday during a tour meant to engage the media on socio-economic activities that they undertake and to appreciate the media for its role in educating the nation on issues of that relates to the economy. He said over the years Jwaneng mine has made notable contribution towards the socio-economic empowerment of communities such as refurbishing schools, clinics and empowering Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises ( SMMEs) doing business in the town and surrounding villages. “This mine as one of the richest diamond producers in the world is not only focused on revenue generation but it is also committed to community development through the various projects,” he said. Other community based projects include water supply, health, education, refurbishment of buildings and sport development with a budget of over P1.2 billion set aside annually to implement the Corporate Social Investment projects.
