The partnership between Air Botswana and Airborne Lifeline Foundation (ALF) is said to have is said to be alleviating the financial and logistical burdens on the less privileged that had to travel long distances to access medical attention. Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Airborne Lifeline Operations Director, Tammi McAllister said the partnership ensures specialists in pediatrics, HIV, nutrition, surgery, orthopedics, physiotherapists and psychologists are flown to outreach sites every month. The new partnership, which was launched in September 2015, allows Air Botswana to carry specialists on their scheduled flights to outreach areas. Since last year 28 specialists are said to have been flown to Maun and Francistown and further transported to Gumare and Seronga where 367 patients were treated. Before the partnership between the two, Air Botswana worked with Usaid since April 2013 also having impact of ALF. “What is important to highlight –is that as a result of our partnership, and Air Botswana coming on board, it has allowed ALF the opportunity to stretch our budget and continue to service other outreach facilities,” said McAllister adding that with this help, additional 135 doctors were flown to Tsabong, Hukuntsi and Ghanzi treating 1563 patients.
