The lucrative Tuli Block-a chunk of land covering 800,000 hectares stretching from Tuli Circle in Bobirwa Sub-district to Radisele Pan near Mahalapye, will soon be declared a planning area. The proposal has been made by the Department of Town and Regional Planning under the Town and City Planning Act of 2013. The revelation was made by Francistown City Council Senior Urban Planner,Thabo Chinyolo, during a Palapye Sub-council meeting on Tuesday. The proposal for declaration of Tuli Block as a planning area came about after discovery that there is no development control in the area and residents undertake them without planning permission. Chinyolo said the proposal to make Tuli Block a planning area was to ensure the correct use of land. Tuli Block has been gazetted as an area with very fertile soils and rich vegetation. This has led to increasing safari tourism activities, which have a negative impact on the environment since no environmental assessment is undertaken as shown by developments on the Limpopo river front. The Tuli Block area also covers Lentswelemoriti village, which has a primary school, a kgotla and other social services.
