
The Botswana National Front (BNF) President Duma Boko has laughed off suggestions that through the recently introduced Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) membership card they are trying to disband individual parties. In an interview with this publication, Boko – who is also the President of UDC – said they have not yet reached a stage where they can disband the contracting parties. “We are still dealing with internal issues of individual parties and it will be a political suicide to try and disband individual parties,” he said. In defence of the card Boko said the decision to come with the membership card is for fundraising, as they need funds to carry out UDC projects and without members contributing it will be costly to run the party. Some BNF members have said proper consultation was not followed when coming with the card as they have made a resolution in Goodhope to join UDC as a group not as individuals. Boko said nothing has changed.
