Outspoken MP and chair of the Parliamentary Committee of Statutory Bodies and State Enterprises (PCSBSE) Samson Moyo Guma has landed in trouble for allegedly defying the leadership by summoning Minister Tshekedi Khama to appear before his committee. This move is said to have caused division within both the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and Government. Information gathered by this publication is that when PCSBSE summoned BTO Chief Executive Officer Brian Dithebe, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism Elias Magosi and Minister Khama, Guma was asked to cancel the examination. The refusal by Guma to cancel the examination of BTO is said to have resulted with state security agents being deployed to investigate his business transactions especially the multimillion oil refinery factory in Francistown whose production will soon start. “The intention was to block the issuing of licence for the projects pending investigations but it has since been granted license this week,” said source at OP. Security agents are said to be tailing Guma to try and pin him on any suspicious deals he is in.
