DIS to get P1 billion

The Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services (DISS) will get the lion’s share of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration’s National Development Plan 11 budget of P4 billion. Presenting his ministry’s proposed NDP 11 projects and programmes in parliament, Minister Eric Molale said that one of the priorities for NDP 11 is consolidation of good governance and strengthening of national security. “Therefore, One Billion, Six Hundred and Sixty-Eight million, Five Hundred Pula is earmarked to strengthen the Directorate of Intelligence and Security by way of improving communications, infrastructure, purchase of equipment and vehicles,” said the minister without elaborating further. He also proposed P34 million for the construction of President Ian Khama’s retirement home and office space. President Khama will relinquish power in 2018 paving way for his successor. Speculation has been rife that he wants his retirement home to be in Mosu, his ancestral village. The minister also proposed to use P115m in refurbishing Orapa House which was bought by Government in 2015 at a cost of P88.4 million.
