The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has been forced to call for primary elections after failing to get a consensus candidate for the looming by-election in Tlokweng. The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) already has Kenneth Segokgo of the Botswana National Front (BNF) to represent it. Vying for BDP candidature are Elijah Katse, Akanyang Seitshiro, Amantle Matlapeng, Thulaganyo Segokgo, and Phineas Molefhe. Party Secretary General Botsalo Ntuane said they have decided to go for the primary elections soon because they are also behind time. “We are going to hold primary elections. So we will just be going to Tlokweng democrats to reveal to them the primary elections date,” he said. Ntuane said Amantle Matlapeng has since stepped down and as such they remain with four contestants who have opted to exercise their rights to contest in the primary. “Matlapeng stepped down voluntarily and with that we remain with four. We should reveal the date for primary elections soonest,’ he said. The UDC is very confident that their candidate Segokgo will retain the seat.
