The Botswana Defence Force (BDF) passenger aircraft Casa 212, which crashed last week Thursday at Thebephatswa Airbase, was scheduled to transport Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisi the next day. “The aircraft was heading to Sir Seretse Khama International Airport where it was to transport His Honour Vice President Masisi to Hukuntsi and then Tsabong,” revealed a source at Thebephatswa Airbase. The fateful crash, which claimed the lives of three army officers including its pilots, forced Masisi to miss the event in which President Ian Khama was handing over the 700th house to the destitute built by Botswana Life Insurance Limited (BLIL) as part of the Presidential Housing Appeal in Hukuntsi. Masisi only managed to make it to the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Youth Wing elective congress in Tsabong. Contacted for comment Government Spokesperson Jeff Ramsay asked to be given more time to consult first. BDF Director of Protocol and public Relations Tebo Dikole didn’t respond to the questionnaire sent to him at the time of going to press.
