After years of the public requesting that Parliamentary proceedings be broadcasted live so that they could see how their representatives are performing, Government appears to have yielded to that. When presenting a development budget request for Parliament this week, the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Eric Molale requested for P3, 760, 000.00 in the 2017/18 financial for use in ensuring Live Broadcast of Parliamentary proceedings. In her recent tour of the country the National Assembly Speaker, Gladys Kokorwe was bombarded with that request from members of the public. This step comes just a few years before the 2019 General Elections and hence is bound to put elected representatives under pressure to perform and meet voters’ expectations failing which they will stand to lose. Molale also requested P1, 880, 000 to carry out security upgrades at Parliament. This follows concerns by MPs about their safety.
