
A political rally addressed by Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisi last weekend has divided democrats aspiring to contest the upcoming Bulela Ditswe in the two Molepolole constituencies currently held by opposition. With the call for applications for expression of interest to contest Bulela Ditswe in opposition held constituencies imminent in Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), behind the scenes lobbying and campaigns have escalated to new heights. Aspirants are exploiting every available opportunity to lure fellow democrats to support their candidacy. Sources within the BDP in Molepolole North branch complain that the Saturday rally, where Masisi welcomed scores of new recruits into the party, was stage managed to promote the forthcoming campaign by two aspirants for Bulela Ditswe 2017 – Kabo Morwaeng and Utlwang Matlhabaphiri. Word doing rounds is that Morwaeng will contest BDP primaries in Molepolole South while his ally Matlhabaphiri will stand in the North, a constituency snatched away from him by Mahommed Khan of UDC in 2014. Those who attended the rally question why in the first place Morwaeng was directing proceedings as he belongs to Molepolole South where he is planning to contest Bulela Ditswe.
