The Ministry of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology is moving with speed to tighten screws on tertiary institutions that offer courses that are not recognised by the Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA). This follows the completion of the ministry’s five-year strategic plan. “The strategy is focused on transforming the country’s economy into a knowledge-based one,” said the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Theophilus Mooko. Asked whether the ministry will be coming down hard on non-compliant colleges, Dr. Mooko said: “Hard is not the right word though the ministry is concerned by the growing complaints about non-compliance of a certain institutions.” Dr. Mooko added: “The key thing is we need to ensure compliance at all cost.
