Former United States (US) president George Bush and his wife Laura Bush visited Botswana on Tuesday. The visit of the duo underscores their commitment to the support they continue to provide to the people Botswana through the George W Bush Institute’s (GWBI) global leadership programmes such as the Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon initiative. While in the country Bush and his wife visited Tlokweng Main Clinic (Tlokweng) and Therisanyo Primary School (Old Naledi) to appreciate the efforts and challenges in the screening and treatment services for the cervical and the country’s vaccination programme. The Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon is a global partnership that builds upon the HIV/AIDS platform to combat cervical and breast cancer. Botswana has been working in partnership with the GWBI since 2012. According to statistics so far 22 000 women have benefited from screenings for cervical cancer and more than 70 000 girls have received vaccinations against the Human papilloma virus (HPV).
