
Student representatives of tertiary institutions in the southern part of the country have aired displeasure with the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology. The students say they are concerned with the time taken by the ministry to have their issues resolved. The students aired these concerns during a consultative meeting with the Minister Dr Alfred Madigele on Thursday. Tertiary education sector has been facing protests students opposed to taking unaccredited courses. The matter saw the students petitioning the minister for intervention. However, it still looks like things have not been addressed. The students did not shy away from telling the minister their disappointments with his ministry. A representative of the University of Botswana Student Representative Council (SRC) Dikosha Dikosha called on Dr Madigele to intervene in the current disciplinary hearings going on at their school. Dikosha said the hearings are illegal and unjust and only threatening the future of the students. “We have long requested the minister to intervene and stop the hearings and reverse the suspensions of students. Examinations are starting next week and these students are not attending classes. This means they are going to miss a lot and this could affect their future,” he said. …
