Enga defeats Mbulawa for North West chairman seat

The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) councillor Duncan Enga for Thamalakane North has defeated the former NWDC chairperson Reaboka Mbulawa in a tight contested election that was held on Monday at RAC chambers in Maun. Enga was voted by 28 while Mbulawa was voted by 19 votes. Lathang Molonda was unopposed for the Vice chairperson’s position. Mbulawa became the chairperson of NWDC after he was nominated specially councillor in 2014 after losing the parliamentary elections to Kgosi Tawana Moremi of Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) of Maun West. The NWDC has 47 councillors, 28 BDP councillors while 17 are for BCP while two are from BNF. According to the source on Sunday, the BDP held a party caucus at Maun lodge where Mbulawa emerged victorious at the caucus as he was voted by 16 votes against 13 for Enga. However, on Monday it emerged that Enga decided to go against the Caucus and stand for elections.
