Diamond giant Debswana and the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) have entered into an agreement to commit to work together on future skills development and technology and innovation development. Debswana Managing Director Balisi Bonyongo and BIUST Vice Chancellor Otlogetswe Totolo signed a memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Thursday to seal the deal. “Through this MoU, both BIUST and Debswana seek to deepen our commitment to each other and to strengthen our core missions of working together on future skills development and technology & innovation development,” said Professor Totolo. While Bonyongo said: “We employ 11 000 people, of which 5000 are direct staff and the rest contractors. Notwithstanding this, we still face a shortage of critical skills. Consequently, we have re-introduced our much coveted Debswana Scholarship Programme as a way to partially address this gap. To date we have 50 students across the globe studying in various technical fields that we require as a company.
