The Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources awarded the tender for the refurbishment of Morupule A in December last year. Presenting his budget to the committee of supply, the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources Kitso Mokaila said that the contract has been awarded to Dosaan Heavy Industries, subsidiary of Doosan Group, which is a heavy industrial company head-quartered in Changwon, South Korea. Mokaila revealed that they expect the first unit to be operational by October 2016 and completion of the whole project by December 2017. He said that they expect to be a power net exporter within the region by 2018 and are currently in negotiations with Independent Power Producers to develop and run unit 5 and 6 of Morupule B. Another power station which was closed, Matshelagabedi Diesel Power station has been refurbished and expanded to produce 35MW power. “The total diesel generation capacity now comprises of 90MW at Orapa and 105MW at Matshelagabedi, giving a total of 195MW,” he said.
