Leader of opposition Duba Boko has cast doubt on the capabilities of Attorney General Dr Athaliah Molokomme as government’s leading litigator. Debating the budget for the Attorney General’s Chambers, Boko – who is a lawyer by profession – did not mince words labelling the Attorney General as the great embarrassment to government as she has failed to execute her mandate as the lead litigator. “If the lead litigator does not do her job maybe is better you fire her and am just suggesting that as she has failed to lead from the front,” hit out Boko, adding that previous Attorney Generals Phandu Skelemani and Ian Kirby lead from the front. He gave several cases which the Attorney General Molokomme should have led from the front but said that she only send junior officers. One notably case is the ‘show of hands’ case in which President Ian Khama took Parliament to court seeking that Members of Parliament should vote in parliament using hands rather than secret ballot.
