
Botswana Peoples’ Party (BPP) president Motlatsi Molapisi has threatened to crack the whip on members who have defied party stand. Molapisi is alleged to be at loggerheads with some BPP veteran leaders over whether to remain in the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) or join the newly formed Alliance for Progressives (AP). Impeccable sources within the party have hinted that the party is headed for a factional split with some wanting to remain in the UDC while others are on the verge of joining the AP. “Molapisi is not happy. And he is working towards taking action against some of the senior BPP members, being Richard Gudu and Chibuya Kuchwe who seem to be disregarding the party constitution and resolutions,” hinted a source. Recently, Gudu and Kuchwe attended a UDC meeting in Gaborone without the blessing of the BPP leadership. Molapisi was expected to lead a four man BPP delegation to the UDC meeting but decided to boycott it. Molapisi was expected to attend the meeting alongside Gudu (BPP national chairperson), Chibuya Kuchwe and Tshepo Makhane (BPP Publicity Secretary).
