The State monitors the gifts and materials that are given to His Excellency the President and this are recorded and kept at the Office of the President. “I understand a gift, in contrast to a bribe, to be something that the ownership of which relinquished voluntarily without expectation of payment or favour from a person to whom it is given,” said assistant Minister Thato Kwerepe when answering a question in Parliament. He vehemently denied that such presents were influencing the President and his vice in their duties. MP for Francistown South Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the Minister to state how the State monitors gifts (monetary or material) that are given to His Excellency the President and His Honour the Vice President by individuals and companies; and ensure that such gifts do not influence them to take biased decisions towards such individuals or companies.
